Becky McMaster is a contemporary artist working within the context of collage and abstraction. Inspired by family photographs and videos from the 1940’s – 60’s, she makes large-scale paintings using a multitude of layers and materials, creating imagery that is transient, fragmented and seductive. Blurring the line between abstraction and representation, the paintings are ambivalent and convey feelings of familiarity and nostalgia as well as an atmosphere that is indefinite; where place, time and memory transcend understanding. Becky moved to Toronto during the summer of 2010 to intern with Barbara Edwards Contemporary. In 2011 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting (with distinction) at the Alberta College of Art and Design and has continued to exhibit in solo and group exhibitions across Canada. Becky is currently working and living in Calgary, Alberta.
